Riding with Clipper

Tag your card every time you board.

Tip: If traveling locally on a transbay bus, notify the driver before you tag to be charged correctly.

AC Transit accepts the following on a Clipper card:

Cash value: For single rides. Clipper customers get a discount of 25 cents for adults and 13 cents for youth, senior and disabled riders on all local routes.

After you spend the daily maximum on local rides ($5 for adults and $2.50 for youth, senior and disabled riders), all local rides for the rest of the day are free. Compared to a standard paper Day Pass, the daily maximum saves adult Clipper customers 50 cents and youth, senior and disabled riders 25 cents.
Local 31-day pass: Unlimited local rides for adults and youth for 31 days. Learn more about managing 31-day passes.
Transbay 31-day pass: Unlimited transbay and local rides for adults for 31 days. Learn more about managing 31-day passes.
Monthly senior/disabled pass: Unlimited local rides for seniors and disabled riders for one calendar month. Available for sale 10 days before start of month through 15th of month. Valid first three days of following month.

Upgrades: Monthly and 31-day pass customers can use cash value on Clipper to upgrade to the transbay fare.

Clipper knows when to give you free and discounted rides when you transfer.

AC Transit transferring to AC Transit: Free ride on any route within 2 hours of first boarding an AC Transit transbay bus. Discounted ride on a transbay route within 2 hours of boarding a local AC Transit bus.
BART transferring to AC Transit: Discount of 50 cents on local ride within 90 minutes of exiting BART.
Caltrain transferring to AC Transit: Free local ride or discounted transbay ride on Route M within 2 hours of tagging off Caltrain when using a monthly pass with 2 or more zones.
Golden Gate Transit transferring to AC Transit: Free local ride or discounted transbay ride within 150 minutes of tagging off Golden Gate Transit.
SamTrans transferring to AC Transit: Free local ride or discounted transbay ride on Route M within 2 hours of boarding SamTrans when using a SamTrans monthly pass.
San Francisco Bay Ferry transferring to AC Transit: Free local ride or discounted transbay ride within 90 minutes of tagging off at Oakland, Alameda-Main Street, Alameda-Harbor Bay or Richmond terminals.
Union City Transit transferring to AC Transit: Free local ride or discounted transbay ride within 90 minutes of boarding Union City Transit.
VTA transferring to AC Transit: Free local ride or discounted transbay ride within 150 minutes of boarding VTA with a VTA monthly pass or SmartPass.
WestCAT transferring to AC Transit: Free ride on local routes within 1 hour of boarding WestCAT.
