Riding with Clipper

Tag your card when you board and tag off when you exit. Learn why tagging off is important.

SMART accepts the following on a Clipper card:

Cash value: For single rides. You need a cash value balance of at least $3.50 on an adult card or $1.75 on a Youth, Senior or RTC Clipper card to board if paying with cash value. After you spend the daily maximum ($23 for adults and $11.50 for youth, senior and disabled riders), all rides for the rest of the day are free.
31-day pass: Unlimited rides for 31 days. Available for adult, youth, senior and disabled riders. Learn more about managing 31-day passes.

Clipper knows when to give you free and discounted rides when you transfer.

Golden Gate Ferry transferring to SMART: Discounted ride if you tag off SMART within 4 hours of boarding Golden Gate Ferry.
Golden Gate Transit transferring to SMART: Discounted ride if you tag off SMART within 4 hours of tagging off Golden Gate Transit.
Marin Transit transferring to SMART: Discounted ride if you tag off SMART within 4 hours of tagging off Marin Transit.
Petaluma Transit transferring to SMART: Discounted ride if you tag off SMART within 4 hours of boarding Petaluma Transit.
Santa Rosa CityBus transferring to SMART: Discounted ride if you tag off within 4 hours of boarding Santa Rosa CityBus.
Sonoma County Transit transferring to SMART: Discounted ride if you tag off SMART within 4 hours of tagging off Sonoma County Transit.
